RBI money market update: overnight volume at ₹11,208.50 crore

The Reserve Bank of India released its latest money market and liquidity operations data on August 3, 2026, reporting overnight money market volume of ₹11,208.50 crore. The weighted average rate for the overnight segment stood at 4.84 per cent, with the rate range moving between 4.00 per cent and 5.35 per cent.

The data, published as Press Release 2026-2027/798, covers money market volumes, RBI liquidity operations and reserve position details. Amounts are stated in ₹ crore and rates in per cent.

Overnight money market activity

Triparty repo accounted for the largest share of the overnight segment. Its volume was ₹9,533.70 crore, with a weighted average rate of 4.84 per cent. The rate range for triparty repo transactions was 4.50 per cent to 5.05 per cent.

Call money volume was ₹1,361.70 crore. The weighted average call money rate was 4.95 per cent, and the range was 4.70 per cent to 5.35 per cent. Market repo volume was lower at ₹313.10 crore, with a weighted average rate of 4.32 per cent and a range of 4.00 per cent to 4.55 per cent.

The release showed no transaction in repo in corporate bond under the overnight segment.

Term segment remains limited

Activity in the term segment was small. Notice money, which relates to uncollateralised transactions of 2 to 14 days tenor, recorded a volume of ₹4.80 crore. Its weighted average rate was 4.85 per cent, with the same figure shown as the rate range.

The RBI data showed no transactions in term money, triparty repo, market repo and repo in corporate bond under the term segment. Term money refers to uncollateralised transactions of 15 days to one year tenor, according to the release notes.

RBI liquidity operations

Under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility, Marginal Standing Facility and Standing Deposit Facility section, the RBI listed operations dated August 1, 2026. Marginal Standing Facility transactions included ₹259.00 crore for one day, maturing on August 2, 2026, at 5.50 per cent. A second MSF entry showed ₹13.00 crore for two days, maturing on August 3, 2026, also at 5.50 per cent.

Standing Deposit Facility entries were much larger. The one-day SDF amount was ₹1,82,887.00 crore, maturing on August 2, 2026, at 5.00 per cent. The two-day SDF amount was ₹20,054.00 crore, maturing on August 3, 2026, at 5.00 per cent.

For today’s operations, the RBI reported net liquidity injected at minus ₹2,02,669.00 crore. In the release format, a positive number indicates injection and a negative number indicates absorption.

Outstanding operations and overall liquidity

For outstanding operations dated July 31, 2026, the release showed no amount under MSF for the listed two-day and three-day tenors. Under SDF, the two-day amount was zero, while the three-day entry maturing on August 3, 2026, stood at ₹1,808.00 crore at 5.00 per cent.

The Standing Liquidity Facility availed from the RBI was ₹12,979.66 crore. Net liquidity injected from outstanding operations was ₹11,171.66 crore. After including both today’s operations and outstanding operations, the net liquidity injected figure was minus ₹1,91,497.34 crore, indicating net absorption on the reported basis.

Reserve position

The cash balances of scheduled commercial banks with the RBI stood at ₹9,05,232.67 crore as on August 1, 2026. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending August 15, 2026, was ₹8,03,001.00 crore.

The Government of India surplus cash balance reckoned for auction was shown as zero as on July 31, 2026. Net durable liquidity was reported as a surplus of ₹5,36,080.00 crore as on July 15, 2026.
