India captain Shubman Gill has returned to the top of the ICC rankings for ODI batters, while 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a sharp rise in the T20I batting list after India’s 3-0 series win in Zimbabwe.
The latest rankings, released on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, brought changes across ODI, T20I and Test lists. Gill moved back to No. 1 in the 50-over batting rankings, replacing New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who had been at the top since January this year.
Gill back on top in ODI batting rankings
Gill’s return to No. 1 came after recent ODI ranking changes linked to the series between the West Indies and New Zealand. Mitchell’s absence from that series opened the way for Gill to reclaim the top position among ODI batters.
The update puts Gill back at the head of the ODI batting chart at a time when Indian players also feature prominently in the T20I rankings. The source report did not list Gill’s latest rating points, but confirmed that he has replaced Mitchell as the top-ranked ODI batter.
Sooryavanshi climbs 230 places after Zimbabwe series
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was the biggest mover among the Indian batters mentioned in the update. The young left-handed batter rose 230 places to reach 48th in the T20I batting rankings.
His climb followed a productive three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Sooryavanshi scored 151 runs at an average of 50.33 and made two half-centuries as India completed a 3-0 win. His latest rating stands at 536 points.
The T20I batting list is still led by India’s Ishan Kishan, who has 910 rating points. Kishan had reached 916 points after the second T20I against Zimbabwe, which is the third-highest batting rating recorded in the format. The only higher ratings listed in the source are Abhishek Sharma’s 931 and Dawid Malan’s 919.
Although Kishan lost some rating points in the latest update, he remains well ahead of second-ranked Sahibzada Farhan, who has 848 points. The ICC also noted that Kishan’s career-best rating is higher than those achieved by Suryakumar Yadav, who reached 912, and Virat Kohli, who reached 909.
Other Indian movements in T20I rankings
Tilak Varma also improved his position among T20I batters, moving up two places to sixth. Shreyas Iyer, listed as India’s T20I skipper in the source report, climbed seven spots to 24th.
Among bowlers, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi gained 31 places and moved to 41st in the T20I list. Varun Chakravarthy, who missed the Zimbabwe tour because of injury, dropped three positions but stayed inside the top 10.
Zimbabwe players also gained ground after the series. Ryan Burl rose six places to 85th among T20I batters, while Blessing Muzarabani climbed 10 spots to 26th among bowlers.

The rankings update also reflected performances from the first Test between the West Indies and Pakistan in Tarouba. West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves moved up 21 places to 48th among Test bowlers after a strong performance in his team’s 90-run win.
Greaves recorded five consecutive wicket-maidens in that match, helping the West Indies take an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series. He also moved to ninth in the Test all-rounders’ rankings.
West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales rose to 24th among Test bowlers. Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas, who also took a five-wicket haul, climbed to 17th. Babar Azam moved to 15th in the batting rankings after making an unbeaten fifty in the second innings.
