Advance booking for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has opened in India with some of the highest ticket rates currently seen for a film release. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the studio has placed the film in the “mega-blockbuster” pricing band because of the strong pre-release demand.
The film is five days away from release, and early ticket sales are said to be very strong. The report says the superhero film is expected to record one of the biggest opening-day collections in India, based on current advance sales trends.
Mega-blockbuster pricing applied
A trade source quoted in the report said exhibitors were informed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being treated as the most anticipated film of the year. The studio has therefore asked cinemas to follow premium pricing in line with the scale and positioning of the release.
This pricing band has recently been used for films with heavy advance buzz, including Pushpa 2 – The Rule, War 2 and Dhurandhar The Revenge. In many theatres, tickets for Spider-Man: Brand New Day are priced above Rs. 300. In some cases, rates have reached four digits, especially for 3D and premium formats.
The report adds that while a few cinemas have kept rates similar to Dhurandhar The Revenge, most theatres and multiplexes are selling Spider-Man: Brand New Day tickets at slightly lower rates than the Ranveer Singh-starrer. The difference has been linked to the exceptional buzz around the Dhurandhar sequel.
Where tickets are cheaper in Mumbai
Despite the overall high pricing, a few single-screen and select cinemas in the Mumbai region are offering comparatively cheaper tickets. G7 multiplex, widely known as Gaiety-Galaxy, is among the most affordable options listed in the report. For the 2D Hindi version, stall tickets are priced at Rs. 180 and balcony tickets at Rs. 200.
Maratha Mandir has the same rate structure for the 2D Hindi version. Both Gaiety-Galaxy and Maratha Mandir are managed by Manoj Desai. As per the report, these theatres are among the few cinemas in India, and the only ones in Mumbai listed in the report, where tickets for the film are available below Rs. 200. This does not include some centres in South India where ticket prices are lower because of government rules.
For viewers looking at other 2D Hindi options, the 10:30 am show at MovieTime Dahisar is priced at Rs. 220. For the English 2D version, Funcity Big Cinema in Ulhasnagar is among the cheaper options in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, with tickets for the 2:15 pm show on July 30 priced at Rs. 240.
Regal cinema in South Mumbai is also listed as a relatively lower-priced option for the English 2D version. Its ticket rates are Rs. 250 for stall seats and Rs. 300 for balcony seats.
Lower-priced 3D options
For the Hindi 3D version, Gold Thane, Gold Borivali and Tilak Dombivali are among the cinemas offering tickets at Rs. 200 for their 10:00 am shows. These are among the more affordable 3D options mentioned in the report.
For the English 3D version, Ajanta Cinex Borivali has one of the lowest listed rates in the region. Tickets for its 10:00 am show are priced at Rs. 200. MovieTime Malad follows with the 10:55 am show priced at Rs. 230.
Other English 3D rates mentioned include Rs. 240 for the 8:30 am show at MovieTime Star City Matunga, Rs. 250 for the 11:30 am show at BMX Cinemas Koparkhairane, and Rs. 260 for the 8:30 am show at PVR Odeon Ghatkopar. Sun City is selling tickets for its 8:00 am show at Rs. 270.
Prices may change with demand
The report notes that many cinemas, especially national chains, use dynamic pricing. This means rates can rise if demand increases closer to release. Viewers planning to watch the film in premium formats or at peak timings may see higher prices than the early rates currently listed.
For now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is clearly being sold as a premium release in India. However, viewers in Mumbai and nearby areas still have a few options where tickets are available at lower rates, particularly for morning shows and selected single-screen cinemas.
