RBI Reports Overnight Money Market Volume at ₹6.2 Lakh Crore

The Reserve Bank of India released its daily money market and liquidity operations data on August 7, 2026, covering transactions and reserve positions reported in the latest press release. The figures are stated in ₹ crore, with rates shown in per cent.

According to the release, the overnight money market segment recorded a total volume of ₹6,20,014.47 crore on a one-leg basis. The weighted average rate for the overall overnight segment was 5.04 per cent, with the rate range reported between 3.95 per cent and 6.35 per cent.

Overnight market details

Triparty repo accounted for the largest part of the overnight segment, with volume of ₹4,20,159.15 crore. Its weighted average rate was 5.02 per cent, and the range was 4.70 per cent to 5.19 per cent.

Market repo volume stood at ₹1,79,257.28 crore, with a weighted average rate of 5.08 per cent. The reported range for market repo was 3.95 per cent to 5.30 per cent.

Call money transactions totalled ₹13,606.39 crore. The weighted average call money rate was 5.18 per cent, with the range placed at 4.60 per cent to 5.25 per cent. Repo in corporate bonds saw volume of ₹6,991.65 crore, a weighted average rate of 5.27 per cent, and a range of 5.15 per cent to 6.35 per cent.

Term segment activity

In the term segment, notice money volume was ₹227.20 crore. The weighted average rate was 5.00 per cent, with the range at 4.70 per cent to 5.10 per cent. Notice money, as stated in the release, relates to uncollateralised transactions of 2 to 14 days tenor.

Term money volume was ₹320.00 crore. The release did not provide a weighted average rate for this category, while the rate range was 5.50 per cent to 5.75 per cent. Term money relates to uncollateralised transactions of 15 days to one year tenor.

Triparty repo in the term segment recorded ₹3,020.00 crore in volume, with a weighted average rate of 5.07 per cent and a range of 5.00 per cent to 5.26 per cent. Market repo volume in the term segment was ₹99.41 crore at 5.35 per cent. Repo in corporate bonds had no transaction in this segment.

RBI liquidity operations

Under RBI operations, the release listed a variable rate reverse repo operation dated August 6, 2026. The operation had a four-day tenor, maturing on August 10, 2026, with an amount of ₹1,30,286.00 crore and a current or cut-off rate of 5.24 per cent.

The Marginal Standing Facility amount was ₹3,686.00 crore for a one-day tenor, dated August 6 and maturing on August 7, at 5.50 per cent. The Standing Deposit Facility amount was ₹2,45,409.00 crore for a one-day tenor at 5.00 per cent.

Net liquidity injected from the day’s operations was reported at minus ₹3,72,009.00 crore. The release states that positive figures indicate injection and negative figures indicate absorption.

Separately, the Standing Liquidity Facility availed from the RBI was ₹10,594.66 crore. Net liquidity injected from outstanding operations was also ₹10,594.66 crore. After including the day’s operations and outstanding operations, net liquidity injected was reported at minus ₹3,61,414.34 crore.

Reserve position

The cash balances of scheduled commercial banks with the RBI stood at ₹7,87,629.35 crore as on August 6, 2026. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending August 15, 2026 was ₹8,03,001.00 crore.

The Government of India surplus cash balance reckoned for auction was ₹0.00 crore as on August 6, 2026. Net durable liquidity was reported as a surplus of ₹5,36,080.00 crore as on July 15, 2026.
