RBI Money Market Update: Overnight Volume at ₹6.55 Lakh Crore

The Reserve Bank of India released its latest money market and liquidity operations data on July 22, 2026. The release, issued as Press Release 2026-2027/729, gives market volumes, weighted average rates and liquidity positions in ₹ crore, with rates shown in per cent.

According to the RBI data, the overnight money market segment recorded total one-leg volume of ₹6,55,296.51 crore. The weighted average rate for the overnight segment was 5.25 per cent, while the reported rate range was 4.00 per cent to 5.54 per cent.

Overnight money market details

Triparty repo formed the largest part of the overnight segment. It recorded volume of ₹4,46,470.05 crore at a weighted average rate of 5.23 per cent. The rate range for this part of the market was 4.92 per cent to 5.30 per cent.

  • Call money volume stood at ₹19,098.18 crore, with a weighted average rate of 5.35 per cent and a range of 4.30 per cent to 5.41 per cent.
  • Market repo volume was ₹1,83,019.88 crore, with a weighted average rate of 5.30 per cent and a range of 4.00 per cent to 5.54 per cent.
  • Repo in corporate bond recorded volume of ₹6,708.40 crore, with a weighted average rate of 5.47 per cent and a range of 5.40 per cent to 5.52 per cent.

In the term segment, notice money volume was ₹130.00 crore at a weighted average rate of 5.20 per cent. The rate range was 5.05 per cent to 5.30 per cent. Term money volume was ₹637.00 crore, with the rate range reported at 5.30 per cent to 5.85 per cent. The release did not show a weighted average rate for term money.

Term triparty repo volume was ₹6,880.00 crore at a weighted average rate of 5.34 per cent. Market repo in the term segment was ₹894.99 crore at a weighted average rate of 3.72 per cent. The RBI reported no transaction in repo in corporate bond under the term segment.

RBI liquidity operations

Under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility, the RBI reported a variable rate repo operation auctioned on July 21, 2026. The operation had a three-day tenor, with maturity on July 24, 2026. The amount was ₹34,291.00 crore and the current rate or cut-off rate was 5.26 per cent.

The Marginal Standing Facility entry for July 21 showed ₹54.00 crore for a one-day tenor maturing on July 22, 2026, at 5.50 per cent. The Standing Deposit Facility entry showed ₹1,28,594.00 crore for a one-day tenor maturing on July 22, 2026, at 5.00 per cent.

Based on these operations, the RBI reported net liquidity injection from the day’s operations at minus ₹94,249.00 crore. In the RBI format, a negative number indicates absorption.

For outstanding operations, the RBI listed a variable rate repo operation auctioned on July 20, 2026. It had a seven-day tenor, maturity on July 27, 2026, amount of ₹72,051.00 crore and a rate of 5.26 per cent. Standing Liquidity Facility availed from the RBI was ₹12,908.82 crore.

Net liquidity injected from outstanding operations was ₹84,959.82 crore. After including the day’s operations, net liquidity injected stood at minus ₹9,289.18 crore, showing net absorption on the combined basis reported in the release.

Reserve position

The cash balances of scheduled commercial banks with the RBI stood at ₹8,31,895.35 crore as on July 21, 2026. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending July 31, 2026, was ₹8,15,720.00 crore.

The Government of India surplus cash balance reckoned for auction as on July 21, 2026, was ₹34,291.00 crore. Net durable liquidity was reported at a surplus of ₹4,99,485.00 crore as on June 30, 2026.
