Ramayana Part 1 to Release in ScreenX and 4DX Globally

Prime Focus Studios founder and DNEG Global CEO Namit Malhotra has confirmed that Ramayana Part 1 will be released globally in ScreenX and 4DX formats through a partnership with CJ 4DPLEX.

The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita. It is scheduled for a global release during Diwali 2026. The second part is currently in production and is planned for Diwali 2027.

According to the details shared by the makers, Ramayana Part 1 will release across more than 1,200 ScreenX and 4DX auditoriums worldwide. It is also set to become the first Indian film to debut in ScreenX.

Namit Malhotra on the premium format release

Malhotra said the film was planned from the start for a large theatrical presentation. He described the new-format release as part of that approach.

“From the outset, Ramayana was designed as a global cinematic experience,” Malhotra said. “Our collaboration with CJ 4DPLEX enables us to bring this iconic film in innovative formats that match its scope and vision. SCREENX and 4DX invite audiences to engage with the story in a powerful new way.”

The announcement adds another layer to the film’s release plan. The project has been discussed for its scale, cast and two-part structure, and the partnership with CJ 4DPLEX places the first film in formats usually reserved for high-budget event releases.

What ScreenX and 4DX will add

ScreenX expands selected scenes beyond the main screen and onto the side walls of the auditorium. This creates a 270-degree panoramic field of view for formatted sequences. For Ramayana Part 1, the format will be used for parts of the film designed for a wider visual frame.

4DX adds motion-enabled seats and environmental effects that are timed with scenes in the film. These can include wind, water, vibration, lighting and scents. The format is intended to give viewers a physical response to selected action and dramatic moments.

CJ 4DPLEX CEO Jun Bang said the film fits the company’s premium cinema formats. “Ramayana: Part 1 is exactly the type of epic, event-level spectacle that is designed to be experienced through the full immersive capabilities of SCREENX and 4DX,” he said.

Don Savant, Chief Business Officer of CJ 4DPLEX, said the company was working with Prime Focus Studios to take the film to international audiences in these formats. “With its sweeping scale, emotional depth, and dynamic action, Ramayana Part 1 provides an exceptional canvas for both SCREENX and 4DX,” Savant said.

First Indian film to debut in ScreenX

The ScreenX debut is a notable part of the announcement because no Indian film has previously opened in that format. Savant said the release also comes at a time when premium theatrical formats are drawing attention in India.

“As the first Indian film to debut in SCREENX, it also represents an exciting milestone for audiences and exhibitors alike, building on the tremendous momentum we’re seeing for premium theatrical experiences in India,” he added.

The source also noted that Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day recently became the highest-grossing ScreenX title in India. That result was cited in connection with growing interest in formats beyond the standard cinema screen.

Cast, production and distribution

Ramayana Part 1 is produced by Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, the film also features Ravie Dubey and Sunny Deol in pivotal roles.

Dharma Productions is handling distribution across North India, while Sony Pictures International will take the film to overseas markets. The wider distribution plan matches the producers’ stated aim of positioning the film for audiences outside India as well as in the domestic market.

With its Diwali 2026 release window, Ramayana Part 1 is being prepared for a large theatrical rollout. The addition of ScreenX and 4DX means viewers in selected cinemas will have the option of watching the film in premium immersive formats along with regular screenings.
