Priyanka Chopra Jonas Cast Opposite Russell Crowe in Bluefly

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has signed another international film. The actor will star opposite Academy Award winner Russell Crowe in Bluefly, a sci-fi action thriller that is expected to begin filming later this year on Australia’s Gold Coast.

The film will be directed by Nimród Antal, whose credits include Predators and Stranger Things. The screenplay has been written by David Frigerio, William Eubank, and Carlyle Eubank.

What Bluefly is about

Bluefly is set in the Congo and follows a grieving United Nations translator who is drawn into a secret mission involving a mysterious aircraft. The aircraft is officially said not to exist, but a Special Operations team is sent to retrieve it through territory controlled by militia groups.

As the mission moves deeper into danger, the team begins to discover that the aircraft’s real purpose is different from what they were told. The story is being positioned as a thriller with a science-fiction premise and a focus on character and suspense.

Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser described the film as a high-stakes sci-fi thriller led by Russell Crowe and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. She compared its layered approach to Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival and said the film has a complex story with unexpected turns.

Director Nimród Antal also spoke about the tone of the project, calling Bluefly an intense, character-driven thriller built around a bold science-fiction idea. He said it is the kind of grounded and propulsive film he likes to make.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ recent international work

The casting comes during a busy phase for Priyanka Chopra Jonas in international films and streaming projects. She was recently confirmed for Reset, a survival thriller in which she will star opposite Orlando Bloom.

Earlier this year, she headlined Prime Video’s The Bluff, which debuted at the top spot globally, according to the source report. Her performance as Ercell Bodden in the film also earned her a nomination for Best Actress in an Action Movie at the 2026 Critics Choice Super Awards.

Priyanka also appeared with Idris Elba and John Cena in the action-comedy Heads of State. The film became Prime Video’s fourth most-watched film and later received a nomination for Outstanding Television Movie at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards.

On the Indian film front, she is set to appear in S.S. Rajamouli’s action-adventure film Varanasi. The film is scheduled to release on April 7, 2027.

Production and sales plans

Bluefly is being produced by Michael Jefferson for Polite Society, David Frigerio for Broken Open Pictures, Deborah Glover for G2 Dispatch, Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier for Highland Film Group, and Vanessa Yao Guo.

The executive producers listed for the project are Lia Buman, Guy Davies, RuthAnne Frigerio, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Jason Kringstein, Katie Leary, and Scott Levenson.

Highland Film Group will handle worldwide rights for the film. The company is set to launch international sales for Bluefly at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Russell Crowe, who won the Academy Award for Gladiator, is also attached to several other projects, including Unabomber, The Weight, Billion Dollar Spy, and Amazon MGM’s Highlander.

With Bluefly, Priyanka Chopra Jonas adds another Hollywood title to her current slate, alongside her confirmed work in Reset and the upcoming Indian film Varanasi.
