Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha are set to appear as an on-screen couple for the first time in a new Hindi film directed by Shashie Vermaa. The project is an untitled situational comedy set in Delhi and is planned for a theatrical release in April 2027.
The actors have shared screen space before in the Fukrey franchise, but this film will mark their first pairing opposite each other in lead roles. The film will be produced by Scenework Productions and Giriraj Productions. Kumud Mishra will also be part of the cast in a key role.
A Delhi-set situational comedy
According to the announcement, the film will use Delhi as more than a backdrop. The story is described as a slice-of-life comedy built around everyday people, relationships and social observations. The makers have positioned it as a character-led film with humour and emotion emerging from believable situations.
The shoot is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. The film does not yet have a title. Its release is currently planned for April 2027.
Shashie Vermaa, who will direct the film, has acted in films such as Bala, Gunjan Saxena and Kathal. He has also written and directed projects including AK47 and Murga Trophy.
Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha on the project
Ali Fazal said the script appealed to him because of its honest characters and believable comic situations. He also said he was excited to explore a new screen dynamic with Richa Chadha, adding that he had followed Shashie Vermaa’s work and wanted to collaborate with him.
Richa Chadha said the writing felt simple and authentic to her. She described the story as funny, emotional and rooted in everyday life, with a social commentary angle. She also connected the film’s Delhi setting to her own early school days in Jamuna Paar.
Speaking about working with Ali in this format, Richa noted that they had appeared together earlier in Fukrey, but their roles there were more adversarial. This film gives them a different space as co-leads paired opposite each other.
Kumud Mishra joins the cast
Kumud Mishra’s role is being described as pivotal, though the makers have not shared details about his character. His casting adds another experienced performer to a film that the director says depends heavily on characters and the situations around them.
Shashie Vermaa described the film as a comedy about people, relationships and the chaos that can follow from a small moment in someone’s life. He said Delhi is almost like a character in the story, and that having Ali, Richa and Kumud in the film brings depth and spontaneity to the world being created.
Mukesh Giri of Giriraj Productions said the story stood out for its honesty, humour and universal appeal. He also said the team is looking forward to bringing the pairing of Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha to audiences in 2027, along with Kumud Mishra under Shashie Vermaa’s direction.
Production houses expand their slate
The announcement comes soon after Scenework Productions and Giriraj Productions completed work on Murga Trophy, a children’s sports film. With this new Delhi-set comedy, the production houses are moving to another genre while continuing to back stories centered on specific characters and settings.
For now, the film’s title and further cast details are awaited. The confirmed information is that Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha will headline the project as an on-screen couple, Kumud Mishra will play an important role, and filming is planned to begin in the latter half of 2026.
