The Reserve Bank of India released its scheduled banks statement for the fortnight ended July 15, 2026, showing the position of deposits, credit, investments, cash and balances with the central bank. The figures were published on July 31 in Press Release 2026-2027/783.
The RBI table reports amounts in ₹ crore. For easier reading, some key figures are also expressed below in lakh crore, rounded to two decimal places.
Credit and deposits in all scheduled banks
Bank credit, excluding inter-bank advances, stood at ₹22,245,520.18 crore for all scheduled banks on July 15, 2026. This is about ₹222.46 lakh crore. The corresponding figure for scheduled commercial banks, including regional rural banks, small finance banks and payments banks, was ₹21,733,382.74 crore, or about ₹217.33 lakh crore.
Deposits other than from banks were reported at ₹26,831,425.69 crore for all scheduled banks, equal to about ₹268.31 lakh crore. For scheduled commercial banks, this figure was ₹26,284,573.93 crore, or about ₹262.85 lakh crore.
- All scheduled banks’ demand deposits were ₹3,250,666.16 crore on July 15.
- All scheduled banks’ time deposits were ₹23,580,759.53 crore on the same date.
- Scheduled commercial banks’ demand deposits were ₹3,191,600.68 crore.
- Scheduled commercial banks’ time deposits were ₹23,092,973.25 crore.
Movement from June 30 to July 15
Compared with the June 30, 2026 reporting date, all scheduled banks showed a decline in deposits other than from banks. The figure moved from ₹27,090,233.46 crore on June 30 to ₹26,831,425.69 crore on July 15.
Bank credit for all scheduled banks also moved lower over the same period, from ₹22,446,966.53 crore to ₹22,245,520.18 crore. In the scheduled commercial bank group, credit moved from ₹21,930,398.21 crore on June 30 to ₹21,733,382.74 crore on July 15.
Investments, measured at book value, increased for all scheduled banks from ₹7,266,391.07 crore on June 30 to ₹7,315,291.41 crore on July 15. Most of these investments were in central and state government securities, which stood at ₹7,303,695.91 crore for all scheduled banks on July 15.
Borrowings, cash and RBI balances
Borrowings from the RBI were sharply lower on July 15 when compared with June 30. For all scheduled banks, borrowings from the RBI were ₹5,598 crore on July 15, down from ₹147,049 crore on June 30. The same figures were reported for scheduled commercial banks.
Cash with all scheduled banks stood at ₹76,413.76 crore on July 15. Balances with the RBI were ₹777,652.37 crore for all scheduled banks and ₹762,269.17 crore for scheduled commercial banks.
Liabilities to the banking system also formed part of the release. Demand and time deposits from banks were ₹439,035.37 crore for all scheduled banks on July 15, while borrowings from banks were ₹65,405.84 crore.
Food credit and bank count
The RBI also reported food credit outstanding. Scheduled commercial banks had food credit outstanding of ₹120,730.44 crore on July 15, 2026. Scheduled co-operative banks had food credit outstanding of ₹52,074 crore.
For the current fortnight, the RBI listed 119 scheduled commercial banks, 26 scheduled state co-operative banks and 55 scheduled primary urban co-operative banks.
The release noted that the previous-year comparison date of July 11, 2025 follows the old fortnight definition and will continue until publication of the press communique as on November 30, 2026. The statement was issued by Ajit Prasad, Deputy General Manager, Communications, Reserve Bank of India.
