RBI Reports Net Liquidity Absorption of ₹1.92 Lakh Crore

The Reserve Bank of India reported net liquidity injection of -₹1,92,914.34 crore in its money market operations update published on August 3, 2026. As per the RBI format, a negative figure denotes absorption, while a positive figure denotes injection.

The release, issued as Press Release 2026-2027/799, covered money market volumes, RBI liquidity operations and reserve positions. The figures were given in ₹ crore, with rates shown in per cent.

Money market volumes showed no transactions

In the money markets section, the RBI reported 0.00 volume across the overnight segment and the term segment. The overnight segment included call money, triparty repo, market repo and repo in corporate bond. Each of these categories was shown with 0.00 volume, with no weighted average rate or rate range applicable.

The term segment also recorded 0.00 volume. This covered notice money, term money, triparty repo, market repo and repo in corporate bond. The release stated that a dash indicates not applicable or no transaction.

Today’s liquidity operations

Under Liquidity Adjustment Facility, Marginal Standing Facility and Standing Deposit Facility operations, the RBI listed two entries for today’s operations. The Marginal Standing Facility entry was dated August 2, 2026, with a one-day tenor and maturity on August 3, 2026. The amount was ₹252.00 crore at 5.50 per cent.

The Standing Deposit Facility entry for the same auction date and tenor showed ₹1,84,297.00 crore at 5.00 per cent. Based on these entries, net liquidity injected from today’s operations was reported at -₹1,84,045.00 crore.

The RBI defines net liquidity as repo plus MSF plus SLF, minus reverse repo and SDF. On that basis, the large SDF amount led to the negative net figure for the day.

Outstanding operations

For outstanding operations, the RBI listed MSF amounts of ₹13.00 crore from August 1, 2026, maturing on August 3, 2026, at 5.50 per cent. Another MSF entry dated July 31, 2026, with maturity on August 3, 2026, showed ₹0.00 crore at 5.50 per cent.

The outstanding SDF entries were larger. The August 1, 2026 entry showed ₹20,054.00 crore at 5.00 per cent, while the July 31, 2026 entry showed ₹1,808.00 crore at 5.00 per cent. Both matured on August 3, 2026.

The Standing Liquidity Facility availed from the RBI was reported at ₹12,979.66 crore. Net liquidity injected from outstanding operations was -₹8,869.34 crore. Combining outstanding operations with today’s operations, the net liquidity figure stood at -₹1,92,914.34 crore.

Reserve position and durable liquidity

The release also gave the reserve position of scheduled commercial banks. Cash balances with the RBI as on August 2, 2026 were ₹9,03,766.34 crore. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending August 15, 2026 was ₹8,03,001.00 crore.

The Government of India surplus cash balance reckoned for auction as on July 31, 2026 was shown as ₹0.00 crore. Net durable liquidity as on July 15, 2026 was reported at ₹5,36,080.00 crore, marked as surplus.
