RBI Reports ₹3,42,424.94 Crore Net Liquidity Absorption

The Reserve Bank of India released its daily money market and liquidity operations data on August 24, 2026. The figures, published in crore rupees with rates shown in percent, reported no recorded volume in the listed money market segments and a negative net liquidity injection of ₹3,42,424.94 crore when outstanding operations were included.

In the RBI format, a positive number represents liquidity injection and a negative number represents absorption. The press release said net liquidity is calculated as repo plus MSF plus SLF minus reverse repo and SDF.

Money market volumes shown at zero

The release listed the overnight and term money market segments with volume, weighted average rate and rate range. Each listed volume was shown as 0.00, with no applicable rate or range reported.

In the overnight segment, call money, triparty repo, market repo and repo in corporate bond were all shown at 0.00. The combined overnight segment was also listed at 0.00.

In the term segment, notice money, term money, triparty repo, market repo and repo in corporate bond were also shown at 0.00. The RBI note described notice money as uncollateralised transactions of 2 to 14 days, while term money was described as uncollateralised transactions of 15 days to one year.

Today’s RBI operations

Under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility, Marginal Standing Facility and Standing Deposit Facility section, the release gave details of operations dated Saturday, August 22, 2026.

  • MSF of ₹4,413.00 crore was listed for 1 day, maturing on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at a rate of 5.50 percent.
  • A 2-day MSF entry maturing on Monday, August 24, 2026, was listed at ₹0.00, with the rate shown as 5.50 percent.
  • SDF of ₹1,60,047.00 crore was listed for 1 day, maturing on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 5.00 percent.
  • A 2-day SDF entry maturing on Monday, August 24, 2026, was listed at ₹0.00, with the rate shown as 5.00 percent.

Based on these entries, the RBI reported net liquidity injected from today’s operations at minus ₹1,55,634.00 crore.

Outstanding operations

The outstanding operations section included variable-rate reverse repo entries and standing facility entries. Two variable-rate reverse repo operations were shown as maturing on Monday, August 24, 2026: ₹95,970.00 crore from Friday, August 21, for 3 days, and ₹98,945.00 crore from Monday, August 17, for 7 days. Both carried a cut-off rate of 5.24 percent.

For MSF, one outstanding entry dated Friday, August 21, for 2 days and maturing on Sunday, August 23, was listed at ₹0.00 at 5.50 percent. Another 3-day MSF entry from the same auction date, maturing on Monday, August 24, was listed at ₹55.00 crore at 5.50 percent.

For SDF, the release listed ₹60.00 crore for 2 days maturing on Sunday, August 23, and ₹1,357.00 crore for 3 days maturing on Monday, August 24. Both were shown at 5.00 percent.

The Standing Liquidity Facility availed from the RBI was reported at ₹9,486.06 crore. After including the outstanding items, the RBI reported net liquidity injected from outstanding operations at minus ₹1,86,790.94 crore.

Reserve position and durable liquidity

The cash reserves position of scheduled commercial banks showed cash balances with the RBI at ₹7,90,665.00 crore as on August 22, 2026. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending August 31, 2026, was reported at ₹8,17,404.00 crore.

The Government of India surplus cash balance reckoned for auction was listed at ₹0.00 crore as on August 21, 2026. Net durable liquidity was shown as a surplus of ₹6,79,145.00 crore as on July 31, 2026.
