The trailer of Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, was released online on the morning of July 30. The film has been in active promotion since July 2025, almost a year and a half before its planned theatrical release, and the makers have already held events in different parts of the world.
The new trailer gives a wider look at the film after an earlier promotional piece had focused mainly on Lord Rama, played by Ranbir Kapoor. This time, the four-minute-plus trailer brings several key characters into view, with Yash’s Ravana taking the most prominent space.
Yash’s Ravana gets a major showcase
The trailer opens with Ravana, and the presentation of the character is among its strongest elements. Yash appears in a fierce avatar, with the promo giving weight to his screen presence and action scenes. The report notes that his version of Ravana feels distinct from earlier portrayals of the character.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Lord Rama is shown as a calmer contrast. The trailer positions him with a graceful and divine presence, in line with the image of Maryada Purushottam. The difference between Rama’s restraint and Ravana’s arrogance appears to be a key dramatic point in the film’s presentation.
Sai Pallavi appears as Sita
Sai Pallavi also makes an important appearance in the trailer as Sita. Her look and body language are presented as poised and convincing. The trailer also includes glimpses of Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Ravie Dubey, Arun Govil and Vivek Oberoi.
One major character, however, is absent from the trailer. Sunny Deol, who plays Lord Hanuman, does not appear in the newly released promo. The makers have therefore kept his look and introduction away from this trailer, even though his casting is already known.
Scale and 3D remain key talking points
The trailer has been designed as a big-screen spectacle, with 3D as an important part of the experience. Bollywood Hungama reported that it had viewed the promo 10 days earlier at a multiplex in Mumbai and found the 3D presentation stronger on the big screen.
The scale of the film is large, with detailed visual effects and action-heavy moments. A sequence featuring Airavata, the divine white elephant, is described as one of the striking parts of the trailer. At the same time, the report points out that the grandeur appears comparable to Baahubali, though it may not clearly go beyond it.
That comparison matters because reports have suggested that more than Rs. 1,000 crores have been spent on the film. Given that scale of reported spending, expectations around visual quality and production value are naturally high. Still, the trailer appears to have delivered enough spectacle to maintain interest in the film.
Big-screen exposure planned with Spider-Man film
The trailer is also expected to get cinema exposure with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The superhero film is expected to draw a very large audience in India, which would give the Ramayana trailer a wide theatrical reach. For a film being promoted as a 3D spectacle, the big-screen trailer placement is likely to be important.
Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for Dangal, and produced by Namit Malhotra.
The music has been composed by A R Rahman and Hans Zimmer. The project is planned as a two-part saga. The first part is scheduled to release on Diwali 2026, while the second part is planned for Diwali 2027.
