The release is scheduled during the 16th Meeting of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare. The government has described the guidelines as the formal transition of the existing Anemia Mukt Bharat programme into Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.

The revised approach will widen the programme beyond iron supplementation. It will include testing, treatment, dietary counselling, digital tracking and community participation through Jan Chetna.

From 6x6x6 to 7x7x7 framework

The new guidelines will expand the current 6x6x6 strategy into a 7x7x7 framework. This will be done by adding one beneficiary group, one intervention and one institutional mechanism.

Low Birth Weight babies in the 0 to 6 months age group will be added as the seventh beneficiary group. The source note says this is intended to address anemia-related concerns from the earliest stage of life.

The seventh intervention will be the "Eating Right" approach. It will focus on encouraging regular consumption of iron-rich and diversified diets as a daily habit.

The seventh institutional mechanism will be a strengthened Monitoring and Evaluation framework supported by digital tracking. This is meant to help follow anemia services across beneficiary groups and support planning based on recorded data.

T4 approach to replace T3

A major change in the guidelines will be the move from the T3 approach to the T4 approach. The earlier T3 approach stood for Test, Treat and Talk. The new T4 approach adds Track to the existing steps.

Under this revised strategy, the programme will focus on more intensive hemoglobin testing, treatment of iron deficiency anemia as per national anemia management protocols, and counselling for healthier dietary practices.

The tracking component will be used for referral and follow-up of beneficiaries. This is expected to help health workers monitor whether people who need treatment or further care are being followed through the system.

Clinical care for severe anemia

The guidelines will also include intravenous iron therapy for the management of severe anemia and for non-responders among pregnant and lactating women.

Ferric Carboxymaltose and Iron Sucrose will be included as clinical interventions for these cases. The source note limits this intervention to severe anemia management and non-responders among pregnant and lactating women.

Digital tracking through health portals

The revised programme will use digital platforms to record and monitor anemia services. Hemoglobin testing records for pregnant women will be mapped through the JANANI Portal.

For children, the records will be captured through the RBSK and U-WIN portals. These platforms will then converge into a unified AMB Abhiyaan Portal.

The unified portal is expected to support monitoring, analysis and planning for anemia-related services. The government has linked this digital tracking with the broader shift to the T4 approach.

Focus on nutrition and maternal-child health

The release of the guidelines at the CCHFW meeting will place anemia control within the wider health and nutrition agenda. The PIB note says the step is connected to the government’s work on nutrition, maternal health and child health.

The operational guidelines are expected to guide implementation of the AMB Abhiyaan after the formal release on 29 June 2026. The source does not provide further details on state-wise rollout timelines or funding.
