Kunal Kohli, known for directing Hindi films such as Hum Tum and Fanaa, has completed work on his first international feature. The filmmaker wrapped the shoot of a British English film titled All About Her in June.
The film features Hollywood actor Nick Sagar, who is known for The Princess Switch franchise. British actress Amelia Gething plays the female lead. She has previously been seen in projects including Emily and The Spanish Princess.
All About Her is produced by Sheetal Parab. The makers released a first-look teaser poster on June 5. The caption described the film as a psychological drama in which love, guilt and identity blur into a dangerous truth. According to a Bombay Times report, the team plans to take the film to various film festivals before its release.
Kunal Kohli on directing in English
Kohli spoke about the film in an interview with Bombay Times last month. He described the project as a new chapter because it involved directing in English and working with a British and international crew.
He also mentioned Shekhar Kapur as an inspiration and said he hoped more Indian filmmakers would get opportunities to work globally. Kohli acknowledged that English is not his first language, but said the experience of directing the film in English was rewarding.
The director also spoke about the working process in the United Kingdom. He said filming with British actors and crew gave him creative freedom. According to him, direct interaction with the actors helped him bring the characters closer to the way he had imagined them, in sync with Amelia Gething and Nick Sagar.
A new step after Hindi and OTT projects
Kohli’s move to an English-language feature adds a new phase to a career that has moved across film, television and streaming. He began as a film critic in the 1990s and later hosted the television show Chalo Cinema. Before making feature films, he also directed music videos.
His first feature as director was Mujhse Dosti Karoge, released in 2002. The film starred Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Rani Mukerji. His next film, Hum Tum, released in 2004, brought him wider recognition. Starring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji, the film was noted for its performances, music and treatment that connected with the multiplex audience of the time.
In 2006, Kohli directed Fanaa, starring Aamir Khan and Kajol. The film became a major box-office success. He later directed Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic in 2008 and Teri Meri Kahaani in 2012. He also produced Break Ke Baad, which released in 2010.
Work beyond mainstream Hindi cinema
Kohli has also worked outside his early Hindi film space. In 2018, he directed the Telugu film Next Enti, starring Tamannaah Bhatia. The same year, he acted in his production Phir Se, co-starring Jennifer Winget and Sumona Chakravarti. The film was among the early Indian titles to release directly on Netflix.
After the pandemic, Kohli directed Lahore Confidential, released in 2021, and Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story, released in 2025. Both films had direct OTT releases.
With All About Her, Kohli is now working with a British cast and crew on an English-language story. The next step for the film, as reported, is the festival circuit before its wider release plans are announced.
