Jackky Bhagnani has returned to acting after a gap of six years with the Independence Day anthem Tere Rang Mein. The song has been released under his music label Jjust Music, and Bhagnani said the project gave him a reason to face the camera again.
The actor-producer said the patriotic theme of the track was central to his decision. He described himself as a patriot and said he wanted his comeback on screen to be attached to a cause that felt right to him. “I am a patriot by heart. It’s been quite some time since I faced the camera. So, I thought the best way to come back is with the right cause,” Bhagnani said.
Return after focusing on production
Bhagnani has spent the last several years working mainly as a producer. He said the break from acting was a conscious choice, as he became more involved in the production side of films and started looking at his career differently.
According to him, producing gave him more say in the kind of work he wanted to be associated with. He said he realised that backing his own films would allow him to make choices without waiting for approval from others. “I realised that I should produce my own films because if I do that, no one will question it,” he said.
His return with Tere Rang Mein is therefore not being presented as a full return to regular acting assignments. Bhagnani said he does not want to take up screen work only to be visible. He is looking for a role that feels different to him creatively.
Looking for credibility with younger viewers
Bhagnani also spoke about his relationship with audiences and the kind of recognition he has been seeking as an actor. He said that even when some of his films worked, he felt he did not receive the credibility he wanted for his performances.
“I felt that even in the films that were working, I wasn’t getting credibility. I wanted the street credibility and respect of Gen Z, they should see that this is made by me,” Bhagnani shared.
He added that he is now searching for something “disruptive” for his next acting project. The comment suggests that he is being selective about what comes after the music video and is waiting for material that offers him a fresh space as a performer.
Jackky on Rakul Preet Singh’s role in Ramayana
Bhagnani also spoke about his wife, actor Rakul Preet Singh, who will be seen as Surpanakha in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part 1. He expressed confidence in her performance and said the film could show Hindi-speaking audiences another side of her talent.
“Rakul is my superstar. She has seen superstardom in the South. She has so much more to offer to the Hindi audience, and Ramayana will do that for her,” he said.
He also acknowledged that Surpanakha can be a difficult character to portray. “Surpanakha can be a tricky character, but she has played it with elegance,” Bhagnani added.
Ramayana: Part 1 features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Rakul Preet Singh will appear as Surpanakha in the film. The epic is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 6, 2026.
For Bhagnani, Tere Rang Mein marks his first acting appearance in several years, while his comments make it clear that he is approaching future acting work carefully. His next screen role, whenever announced, is expected to depend on whether the material matches what he is currently looking for.
