India completed a 3-0 ODI series sweep over Afghanistan with a nine-wicket win in the third and final match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
Chasing 219, India were carried by a dominant opening partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma. Jaiswal stayed unbeaten on 110 from 86 balls, while Rohit made 79 from 69 deliveries. Their 170-run stand removed any real pressure from the chase and ensured that Afghanistan had little room to force a contest after being kept to a modest total.
Earlier, Prasidh Krishna set up the result with his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs. His figures of five for 23 left Afghanistan struggling from the start after they chose to bat first.
Jaiswal finishes the chase in control
Jaiswal’s innings was the centre of India’s reply. He hit 14 fours and three sixes, scoring at a brisk pace without allowing Afghanistan’s bowlers to settle. His cutting through the off side stood out, and he also used his feet when the spinners came on.
The left-hander reached his second ODI century in only his sixth match in the format. The landmark came with a clean inside-out six over extra cover off Mohammad Nabi, a shot that summed up the confidence with which he batted through the innings.
Rohit gave India a strong start at the other end. His 79 included nine fours and three sixes. Prasidh strikes with the new ball

Gurnoor Brar’s opening delivery, a 140 kph short ball, rose sharply. Later, another ball at 144 kph hit Ibrahim Zadran on the helmet. Those moments showed that batting was not straightforward at the start of the innings.

Ibrahim Zadran, who had already taken a blow on the helmet, was dismissed for 11 when he pushed outside off stump and edged to first slip. Rohit completed all three catches, giving India early control of the innings.
Darwish Rasooli fell soon after for 1. He attempted a big shot against Prasidh but only sent the ball high to Shreyas Iyer at mid-off. At that stage, Prasidh’s opening spell read four for six from five overs, a spell that shaped the match before Afghanistan could build any momentum.

Afghanistan needed partnerships after the early damage, but the target they eventually set was not enough against India’s top order. A chase of 219 at Chepauk still required care, yet Jaiswal and Rohit gave India a fast, controlled beginning.
