RBI to Auction ₹24,000 Crore Government T-Bills on August 5

The Reserve Bank of India has announced an auction of Government of India Treasury Bills with a total notified amount of ₹24,000 crore. The auction is scheduled for Wednesday, August 05, 2026, and settlement will take place on Thursday, August 06, 2026.

The announcement was issued as RBI Press Release 2026-2027/791 by Ajit Prasad, Deputy General Manager, Communications.

Auction details

The auction will cover three Treasury Bill tenures. The notified amount is split across 91-day, 182-day and 364-day Treasury Bills.

  • 91-Day Treasury Bill: ₹9,000 crore
  • 182-Day Treasury Bill: ₹8,000 crore
  • 364-Day Treasury Bill: ₹7,000 crore
  • Total notified amount: ₹24,000 crore

The sale will be governed by the terms and conditions specified in General Notification F.No.4(2)-B(W&M)/2018 dated March 26, 2025, issued by the Government of India, as amended from time to time.

Who can participate

State Governments, Union Territories with legislature, eligible Provident Funds in India, designated Foreign Central Banks, and any person or institution specified by the Reserve Bank can participate on a non-competitive basis. The allocation under this route will be outside the notified amount.

Individuals can also participate on a non-competitive basis as retail investors. For retail investors, the allocation will be restricted to a maximum of 5 percent of the notified amount. Individual investors may place bids under the non-competitive scheme through the RBI Retail Direct portal.

Bidding method and timings

The auction will be price-based and will use the multiple price method. Bids must be submitted in electronic format through the Reserve Bank of India’s Core Banking Solution, known as the E-Kuber system.

For competitive bids, the submission window on Wednesday, August 05, 2026, will be from 12:30 pm to 01:30 pm. For non-competitive bids, the window will be from 12:30 pm to 01:00 pm.

The results will be announced on the day of the auction. Successful bidders will have to make payment on Thursday, August 06, 2026.

Physical bids only in case of system failure

RBI said physical bids will be accepted only in the event of system failure. Such bids must be submitted to the Public Debt Office before the auction timing ends and in the prescribed form. The form can be downloaded from the RBI website.
