RBI Data Shows Overnight Money Market Volume at ₹6.47 Lakh Crore

The Reserve Bank of India’s money market release dated August 19, 2026 recorded total overnight segment volume of ₹6,47,255.99 crore, with a weighted average rate of 5.00 per cent. The rate range for the overnight segment was 1.00 per cent to 5.51 per cent.

The data, issued as Press Release 2026-2027/921, gives a daily snapshot of money market activity, RBI liquidity operations, cash reserve positions of scheduled commercial banks, and durable liquidity. The figures are stated in ₹ crore, while rates are given in per cent.

Overnight money market activity

Within the overnight segment, triparty repo accounted for the largest volume. RBI reported triparty repo volume at ₹4,57,896.55 crore, with a weighted average rate of 4.97 per cent. The rate range for this segment was 4.50 per cent to 5.07 per cent.

Market repo volume stood at ₹1,70,597.37 crore. Its weighted average rate was 5.05 per cent, with transactions taking place in a range of 1.00 per cent to 5.51 per cent.

Call money volume was ₹11,328.97 crore. The weighted average call money rate was 5.11 per cent, and the reported range was 4.60 per cent to 5.25 per cent.

Repo in corporate bond recorded volume of ₹7,433.10 crore. The weighted average rate for this segment was 5.32 per cent, with the range placed between 5.28 per cent and 5.41 per cent.

Term segment figures

In the term segment, notice money volume was ₹243.70 crore. The weighted average rate was 5.01 per cent, and the rate range was 4.85 per cent to 5.15 per cent. The release states that notice money relates to uncollateralized transactions of 2 to 14 days tenor.

Term money volume was ₹444.50 crore. The release did not provide a weighted average rate for this category, while the rate range was 5.50 per cent to 5.81 per cent. Term money refers to uncollateralized transactions of 15 days to one year tenor, as noted in the RBI release.

Triparty repo in the term segment recorded volume of ₹1,451.00 crore, with a weighted average rate of 5.05 per cent and a range of 5.00 per cent to 5.25 per cent. Market repo volume in the term segment was ₹497.40 crore, with a weighted average rate of 5.24 per cent and a rate range of 4.95 per cent to 5.35 per cent. Repo in corporate bond showed no transaction in this part of the release.

RBI liquidity operations

Under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility, Marginal Standing Facility and Standing Deposit Facility section, the release listed one-day operations auctioned on August 18, 2026 and maturing on August 19, 2026.

The variable-rate operations section showed amounts of ₹82,788.00 crore and ₹36,595.00 crore, both at 5.24 per cent. The release also recorded MSF of ₹57.00 crore at 5.50 per cent and SDF of ₹1,82,609.00 crore at 5.00 per cent.

Net liquidity injected from the day’s operations was reported at minus ₹3,01,935.00 crore. The RBI note specifies that a positive number indicates injection and a negative number indicates absorption. It also states that net liquidity is calculated as repo plus MSF plus SLF minus reverse repo minus SDF.

For outstanding operations, the release listed a seven-day variable-rate operation auctioned on August 17, 2026, maturing on August 24, 2026, for ₹98,945.00 crore at 5.24 per cent. Standing Liquidity Facility availed from RBI was ₹9,910.66 crore. Net liquidity injected from outstanding operations was minus ₹89,034.34 crore.

Combining outstanding operations with the day’s operations, net liquidity injected was reported at minus ₹3,90,969.34 crore.

Reserve position

The cash balances of scheduled commercial banks with the RBI stood at ₹8,23,883.49 crore as on August 18, 2026. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending August 31, 2026 was ₹8,17,404.00 crore.

The Government of India surplus cash balance reckoned for auction as on August 18, 2026 was reported as ₹0.00 crore. Net durable liquidity was shown as a surplus of ₹6,79,145.00 crore as on July 31, 2026.
