The Cine & TV Artistes’ Association, known as CINTAA, has rejected claims that its Executive Committee has been dissolved. The actors’ body said the reports being circulated are incorrect and that its elected committee continues to function under the association’s Constitution.
In its clarification, CINTAA said the Executive Committee can be dissolved only under a specific condition laid down in its Constitution. According to the association, dissolution is possible only if more than 50 per cent of the elected members of the Executive Committee resign. CINTAA said that situation has not occurred, so the committee remains in place.
The statement comes amid disagreements over the internal functioning of the association. CINTAA has maintained that resignations or vacancies within the committee do not automatically make the Executive Committee invalid.
CINTAA says vacancies were filled as per rules
CINTAA also addressed questions about vacant positions in the Executive Committee. The association said those vacancies have been filled according to its constitutional process.
As per CINTAA’s explanation, eligible members who were next in line based on the voting count have been inducted to fill the vacant posts. The association said this process is part of its internal framework and does not affect the validity of the committee.
Advocate Suvigya Vidyarthi, legal counsel representing CINTAA, said the claim that the Executive Committee has been dissolved has no basis under the association’s rules.
“The version which has been circulating that the EC of CINTAA is dissolved is totally wrong, misconceived and lacks any judicial sanctity. As per the Constitution of CINTAA, the EC shall dissolve only when more than 50 per cent of the elected members of the EC resign, which is not the case at hand,” Vidyarthi said.
Objection raised to FWICE involvement
CINTAA also objected to the reported involvement of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, or FWICE, in the matter. The association’s legal counsel said CINTAA does not recognise the powers that FWICE has allegedly tried to exercise in relation to its internal affairs.
Vidyarthi said FWICE had “jumped into the fray” and, in CINTAA’s view, had sought to assume powers that are neither known to nor recognised under CINTAA’s constitutional framework.
He further alleged that FWICE had acted at the behest of certain disgruntled individuals and issued directions that CINTAA considers untenable and contrary to the association’s Constitution.
CINTAA’s position is that its internal governance cannot be overridden by outside directions. Vidyarthi said the association would take appropriate steps to protect its autonomy, uphold its Constitution and safeguard the interests of its members.
Association says work for members continues
CINTAA has said its Executive Committee remains “very much in existence” and continues to work for artistes. The association said its focus remains on the welfare of actors and on the protection and strengthening of the rights of vulnerable performers.
In a separate public notice, CINTAA said confusion was being created by some members for “oblique motives”. The notice stated that the union is “fully operational and functional through its EC” and asked all concerned to take note.
The association also said its institutional identity is larger than any single office-bearer or any current committee. It pointed to its 68-year history of representing actors and assisting them in professional matters.
Established in 1958, CINTAA represents artistes working in films, television, digital platforms, advertising, live performances and other audiovisual formats. Over the years, the association has dealt with issues such as contracts, delayed payments, workplace disputes and professional safeguards for performers.
The latest clarification is CINTAA’s response to claims around its internal structure and the status of its Executive Committee. For now, the association has reiterated that its committee remains functional and that its activities for members have not been interrupted.
