RBI Reports Net Liquidity Absorption of ₹3.49 Lakh Crore

The Reserve Bank of India’s press release dated August 10, 2026 reported no transactions in the listed money market segments and showed net liquidity absorption of ₹3,49,930.34 crore from outstanding operations, including the day’s operations.

The figures were released in RBI Press Release 2026-2027/849. Amounts in the release are stated in ₹ crore and rates are stated in per cent. The data is based on information from the Reserve Bank of India and the Clearing Corporation of India Limited.

Money market volumes reported at zero

In the overnight money market segment, the RBI release showed total volume of 0.00. The sub-segments listed under this head also recorded 0.00 volume: call money, triparty repo, market repo and repo in corporate bond. Since there were no reported transactions, the weighted average rate and rate range were marked as not applicable.

The term segment also showed 0.00 volume across the listed categories. These included notice money, term money, triparty repo, market repo and repo in corporate bond. The release described notice money as uncollateralized transactions of 2 to 14 days tenor, and term money as uncollateralized transactions of 15 days to one year tenor.

RBI operations and liquidity position

Under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility, Marginal Standing Facility and Standing Deposit Facility section, the RBI reported today’s operations with auction date August 8, 2026.

  • Marginal Standing Facility of ₹938.00 crore was reported for one day, maturing on August 9, 2026, at 5.50 per cent.
  • A two-day MSF entry maturing on August 10, 2026 showed ₹0.00 crore at 5.50 per cent.
  • Standing Deposit Facility of ₹2,26,203.00 crore was reported for one day, maturing on August 9, 2026, at 5.00 per cent.
  • A two-day SDF entry maturing on August 10, 2026 showed ₹0.00 crore at 5.00 per cent.

The net liquidity injected from today’s operations was reported at -₹2,25,265.00 crore. The RBI notes that net liquidity is calculated as repo plus MSF plus SLF minus reverse repo minus SDF. A negative figure in this format represents absorption.

Outstanding operations

For outstanding operations, the release listed a variable rate reverse repo operation dated August 6, 2026, with a four-day tenor and maturity on August 10, 2026. The amount was ₹1,30,286.00 crore, with a cut-off rate of 5.24 per cent.

Outstanding MSF included one entry of ₹0.00 crore dated August 7, 2026, maturing on August 9, 2026, at 5.50 per cent. Another MSF entry dated August 7, 2026, with maturity on August 10, 2026, stood at ₹579.00 crore at 5.50 per cent.

Outstanding SDF entries included ₹90.00 crore dated August 7, 2026, maturing on August 9, 2026, at 5.00 per cent, and ₹5,463.00 crore dated August 7, 2026, maturing on August 10, 2026, also at 5.00 per cent.

The Standing Liquidity Facility availed from the RBI was reported at ₹10,594.66 crore. Net liquidity injected from outstanding operations was shown at -₹1,24,665.34 crore.

Cash reserve and durable liquidity figures

The cash reserves position of scheduled commercial banks showed cash balances with the RBI at ₹7,83,902.81 crore as on August 8, 2026. The average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending August 15, 2026 was ₹8,03,001.00 crore.

The Government of India surplus cash balance reckoned for auction as on August 7, 2026 was reported at ₹0.00 crore. Net durable liquidity was shown as a surplus of ₹5,36,080.00 crore as on July 15, 2026.
