The Reserve Bank of India’s latest weekly statistical release showed India’s foreign exchange reserves at ₹67,32,093 crore, or US$707,002 million, as on August 7, 2026.
The reserves rose by ₹1,19,945 crore during the week. In dollar terms, the weekly increase was US$14,136 million. Compared with end-March 2026, total reserves were higher by ₹1,78,232 crore, or US$15,894 million. On a year-on-year basis, the increase was ₹6,50,963 crore, while the dollar value was up by US$13,384 million.
Foreign exchange reserves
Foreign currency assets formed the largest part of the reserves. They stood at ₹54,71,605 crore, equal to US$574,625 million, as on August 7. This category rose by ₹82,740 crore during the week and by ₹2,34,238 crore from end-March 2026. On a year-on-year basis, foreign currency assets were higher by ₹3,51,690 crore, though the dollar value was lower by US$9,353 million.
The value of gold held in reserves was reported at ₹10,35,407 crore, or US$108,738 million. Gold reserves increased by ₹35,821 crore during the week. Compared with end-March 2026, however, they were lower by ₹58,903 crore. Over the year, gold reserves were higher by ₹2,80,016 crore.
Special Drawing Rights stood at ₹1,78,487 crore, or US$18,745 million. The reserve position in the International Monetary Fund was ₹46,595 crore, equal to US$4,894 million.
The RBI noted that the figures are provisional and that any difference is due to rounding off. It also said foreign currency assets exclude SDR holdings of the Reserve Bank, investment in bonds issued by IIFC (UK), amounts lent under SAARC and ACU currency swap arrangements, and the RBI’s contribution to funding of Nexus Global Payments.
RBI loans and advances
In the section on the Reserve Bank’s liabilities and assets, loans and advances to the Central Government were shown as zero for August 7, 2026. Loans and advances to State Governments stood at ₹29,684 crore.
This was an increase of ₹12,584 crore from ₹17,100 crore on July 31, 2026. Compared with ₹42,792 crore on August 8, 2025, it was lower by ₹13,108 crore.
Scheduled commercial banks
Scheduled commercial banks’ aggregate deposits in India stood at ₹2,69,41,367 crore as on July 31, 2026. The RBI data showed year-on-year growth of 15.4 per cent in aggregate deposits.
Demand deposits were ₹34,31,419 crore and time deposits were ₹2,35,09,949 crore. Borrowings stood at ₹9,11,164 crore, while other demand and time liabilities were ₹11,97,381 crore.
Bank credit was reported at ₹2,20,78,095 crore as on July 31, 2026. The year-on-year growth rate was 19.3 per cent. Within this, food credit was ₹1,17,830 crore and non-food credit was ₹2,19,60,264 crore.
The release said the data include the impact of the merger of a non-bank with a bank from July 1, 2023. It also noted that, under the Banking Laws (Amendment) Act, 2025, the definition of a fortnight has been revised from alternate Fridays to the 15th and last calendar day of a month, effective December 15, 2025.
Money stock
Money stock, measured as M3, stood at ₹3,22,81,302 crore on July 31, 2026. It was ₹3,14,53,126 crore on March 31, 2026. The increase during the financial year so far was ₹8,28,176 crore, or 2.6 per cent. On a year-on-year basis, M3 rose by ₹41,41,428 crore, or 14.7 per cent.
Among the components, currency with the public was ₹41,85,446 crore. Demand deposits with banks were ₹35,85,981 crore, while time deposits with banks were ₹2,43,87,268 crore. “Other” deposits with the Reserve Bank stood at ₹1,22,607 crore.
On the sources side, net bank credit to government was ₹93,59,609 crore. Bank credit to the commercial sector was ₹2,29,33,415 crore. The RBI separately noted that the money stock data include the impact of the merger of a non-bank with a bank from July 14, 2023.
Liquidity operations
The RBI’s liquidity operations data covered the period from August 3 to August 9, 2026. Net absorption was reported on each of the seven days shown in the release.
The highest net absorption in the period was ₹3,72,009 crore on August 6. The lowest was ₹2,24,196 crore on August 9. Standing Deposit Facility amounts were above ₹2,24,000 crore on each day, while Marginal Standing Facility usage ranged from ₹32 crore on August 9 to ₹3,686 crore on August 6.
