The Reserve Bank of India has released its latest scheduled banks statement, giving figures for July 31, 2026, along with comparable data for July 15, 2026 and July 25, 2025. The data is part of RBI Press Release 2026-2027/876, issued on August 12, 2026.
The statement covers scheduled commercial banks, including regional rural banks, small finance banks and payments banks, and also gives figures for all scheduled banks. All amounts in the release are in ₹ crore. For the main headline numbers below, the article also gives approximate lakh crore values for easier reading.
All scheduled banks: main figures
For all scheduled banks, deposits other than from banks stood at ₹27,489,688.59 crore on July 31, 2026. This is about ₹274.90 lakh crore. The total included demand deposits of ₹3,491,774.16 crore and time deposits of ₹23,997,914.43 crore.
Bank credit, excluding inter-bank advances, was reported at ₹22,587,935.10 crore, or about ₹225.88 lakh crore. The largest part of this was loans, cash credits and overdrafts, at ₹22,142,969.63 crore. The remaining components included inland bills purchased, inland bills discounted, foreign bills purchased and foreign bills discounted.
Investments at book value for all scheduled banks stood at ₹7,338,590.21 crore. Of this, Central and State Government securities accounted for ₹7,326,215.51 crore, while other approved securities were ₹12,374.69 crore.
Movement from July 15 to July 31
- Deposits other than from banks rose by ₹662,157.65 crore, from ₹26,827,530.94 crore to ₹27,489,688.59 crore.
- Bank credit excluding inter-bank advances increased by ₹341,123.27 crore, from ₹22,246,811.83 crore to ₹22,587,935.10 crore.
- Investments at book value increased by ₹23,298.80 crore, from ₹7,315,291.41 crore to ₹7,338,590.21 crore.
- Balances with the RBI rose from ₹777,652.37 crore to ₹835,046.67 crore.
- Borrowings from the RBI declined from ₹5,598.00 crore to ₹604.00 crore.
Scheduled commercial banks
For scheduled commercial banks, deposits other than from banks stood at ₹26,941,367.49 crore on July 31, 2026. Demand deposits were ₹3,431,418.50 crore, while time deposits were ₹23,509,948.99 crore.
Bank credit excluding inter-bank advances for scheduled commercial banks was ₹22,078,094.63 crore. Loans, cash credits and overdrafts made up ₹21,635,466.01 crore of this amount. Investments at book value were ₹7,156,897.07 crore, almost entirely in Central and State Government securities, which stood at ₹7,156,358.73 crore.
Scheduled commercial banks reported cash of ₹78,902.96 crore and balances with the RBI of ₹819,616.44 crore. Their borrowings from the RBI were ₹604.00 crore on July 31, 2026, compared with ₹5,598.00 crore on July 15, 2026.
Food credit and bank count
The RBI also reported food credit outstanding. For scheduled commercial banks, food credit outstanding was ₹117,830.41 crore on July 31, 2026. For scheduled co-operative banks, it was ₹52,074.00 crore.
The release listed 119 scheduled commercial banks for the current fortnight. It also listed 26 scheduled state co-operative banks and 55 scheduled primary urban co-operative banks.
The RBI noted that the July 25, 2025 figures relate to the corresponding reporting Friday of the previous year under the old fortnight definition. It said this treatment will continue until publication of the press communique as on November 30, 2026.
